Aloha fellow learn-it-all 👋
Greetings from one of my fave lil secret beaches in Honolulu. 🌴
The bottom right leaf of this picture shows a unique Hawaiian plant called ”Naupaka Kahakai.” This bush grows by the seashore and has small white flowers. It was the only plant I saw for days when I last backpacked in May at National Volcanoes Park on Big Island.
At 5:550AM, I board a plane tomorrow, leaving for another backpacking trip, this time to Kauai across 11 miles of the Na Pali Coast. Because of that, my usual writing time has shrunk, so I’m making this letter a quick little snippet into my life. I’ve unpacked and repacked my 35-pound pack and am now dithering on whether clean socks for each day is indulgent. About ten pounds of my pack is parmesan and white cheddar cheese, so I’ll be eating cheese for the next five days. See you on the other side.
Now, let’s dive into letter 224 from a learn-it-all. Enjoy!

❓Question to think about
What are some wins I can celebrate?
📸 Photo of the Week
🖊️Writing
Five wins over the past week:
Submitting my manuscript with 18,425 words to my copyeditor! I will be sending out the advanced reader copy of my book Letters to My Life by the end of August. There’s only one week left to preorder your copy.
only a couple weeks left until I complete my 150 hour certification to become a teacher!
Learned to make poepoe style lei of plumeria flowers. It blends some of my favoite things: flower hunts, using my hands to create, weaving intention, and sharing love through gifts
Biking part of the Pali (mountain) road through Oahu. I turned back after the wind was unsafe, but I still made it 28 miles!
Daily cold submersions are refreshing.

Mood Swings by Marcus King
Let's take another one, I swear, I'm havin' fun, but I look miserable
'Cause time don't heal no pain, I still feel just the same
'Cause time is standin' still
Draw a smile on every day I've run out of paint
Hold my brush, I'm feelin' faint
[Chorus]
Feel Iike I can really be myself around you
Mood swings like a pendulum, I can't break loose
Feel like I can really be myself around you
[Verse 2]
Someday I might find peace I long left behind
I hope you're still here when I do
I know it ain't fair to you, shit that I put you through
My condition is no excuse
I know it won't make much sense, but baby, in my defense
You're the only one I feel safe around
Let me explain myself, it's the first time I've felt like
I'm not runnin' myself into the ground
